With the risk of cholera infection rising in flood-affected areas, the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene has stepped up efforts to manage vaccines and other essential health supplies.
On Tuesday, the ministry sent 80,523 doses of cholera vaccine (23 boxes) to Nuwakot, along with 10 freeze-free vaccine carriers, 220 ice packs with a capacity of 0.6 litres each, and eight fridge tags.
Vaccines had already been transported to Rasuwa by helicopter. The cholera vaccination campaign is scheduled to begin there on Thursday.
The ministry said the campaign is being conducted as a priority measure to prevent infections in flood-affected areas, where damage to drinking water and sanitation systems has increased the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
