Kathmandu, October 18

China has said it wants to explore ways to enhance trilateral cooperation with Indian and Nepal to advance common development of the three countries.

At regular press briefing in Beijing, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hua Chunying said, “Nepal and India are China’s friendly neighbors. We believe that positive interactions of the three pairs of bilateral relations will not only promote economic and social development of the three countries, but also contribute to regional stability and development.”

Hua, who was responding to question from local journalists on the meeting between Prachanda, Xi and Modi on the sidelines of BRICS summit in Goa on Saturday, added, “We would like to explore how to enhance trilateral cooperation with India and Nepal so as to advance common development of the three countries.”

This comes just days after the Indian Ministry of External Affairs refuted media reports of the meeting saying that the leaders were just involved in informal chat, and it was not a trilateral meeting. Prime Minister Prachanda’s personal secretariat, meanwhile, said the Nepali PM proposed that the three countries explore the possibilities of trilateral cooperation.
