Cargo plane skids off runway into sea in Hong Kong; 2 killed

Kathmandu, October 20

A cargo plane at Hong Kong International Airport skidded off the runway and plunged into the sea, killing two people.

According to the BBC, citing local media, both victims were ground staff working at the airport. The plane reportedly struck their vehicle before sliding into the sea.

Four crew members onboard were rescued alive and taken to a hospital. The accident occurred at around 3:40 am local time on Monday.

The aircraft, Emirates flight EK9788, was a Boeing 747-481 operated by Turkish cargo airline ACT Air and was en route from Dubai to Hong Kong.
