Kathmandu, October 14

President Bidya Devi Bhandari will consult the Election Commission before taking action over the Prime Minister’s recommendation to expand his Cabinet.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, on Friday, decided to induct RPP leaders, including Kamal Thapa, into the Cabinet in a violation of the election code of conduct. Deuba wants four RPP ministers and four ministers of state to be administered oath of office by the President.

A Shital Niwas source said, “The President will consult the Election Commission and legal experts before reaching a decision.”

With the induction of RPP leaders Kamal Thapa, Dilnath Giri and Bikram Thapa, who have been nominated ministers, and Kunti Shahi, Bhaskar Bhadra, Sushil Shrestha and Kanta Bhattarai, who have been nominated ministers of state, the Cabinet is now 64-person strong, the biggest in Nepal’s history.
