Ballot boxes from 870 stations yet to be taken to district headquarters

Sealed ballot boxes

Kathmandu, November 27

The Election Commission says it is yet to bring ballot boxes from 870 places which held voting for provincial and federal parliamentary elections on Sunday.

Voting was held at 2,917 voting stations in 32 districts on Sunday. As of Monday 11 am, ballot boxes from 2,057 stations have been taken to respective district headquarters, informs the Commission.

The Commission has blamed difficult terrain for the delay in transportation of ballot papers. Of the places from which ballots are yet to be brought, helicopters will be used at 129 places, according to Commission.

Security personnel and poll officials will bring ballot papers on foot from other 741 places, the Commission informs.

Counting of votes, however, will begin only after December 7, when other 45 districts of the country will go for polls in the second phase. Voting was held in only 32 districts of mountainous and high hilly region on Sunday.

Till December 7, the ballot boxes will be kept in the district headquarters guarded by representatives of political parties, district administration offices and security agencies.
