Kathmandu, April 21

Dāphā Dhukū, a collective of dāphā khalahs from Kirtipur municipality, in collaboration with Folk Lok, a community-based music programme, has announced a callout for Dāphā Dhukū Pāsā Programme.

Dāphā Dhukū Pāsā is a year-long youth arts programme and is open to young people (20-35 years) living in Kathmandu who practise dāphā and are interested in careers in the creative expression of indigenous music and knowledge.

Through the programme, the participants will get a chance to learn from dāphā practitioners, musicians, ethnomusicologists, advocates, and different experts, which will enable them to build their entrepreneurial, creative, interpersonal, and organisational skills, the organisers say.

The six-week workshop will start on May 22.

After the Dāphā Dhukū Pāsā workshops, the participants will get a chance to implement their learnings in the next edition of Dāphā Calling, an annual forum for the sharing of knowledge and practices of Kathmandu valley’s historic dāphā music tradition.

Folk Lok has been organising this programme since 2020. In November and December 2022, it conducted the first in-person edition of the programme, involving around eight dāphā khalahs and engaging visitors in panel discussions, exhibitions, workshops, and performances around dāphā.

The organisers are conducting 12 individualised information sessions targeted to dāphā khalahs of Kirtipur on April 22 and 29.

Interested candidates can apply by April 30 by visiting this link.
