Kathmandu, December 9

Ruling coalition ally Rastriya Prajatantra Party has urged Nepal’s main opposition CPN-UML to allow Parliament to function smoothly, and to resolve the dispute over the government’s proposal to amend the new constitution.

Members of the RPP Parliamentary party, who met in the capital on Friday, have also said that the UML is aiding extremists by now allowing Parliament to do its job.

Party chief Kamal Thapa, however, said because the government did not consult the RPP before registering the amendment bill, there is no need for the party to own it. He added that if the government convenes an all-party meet he could suggest a way out of the political crisis.

Thapa said the government’s bid to revise the boundary of Province 5 was deplorable, and the proposal has created an undesirable situation in the country. He was quick to add that problems of the Madhesh need to be addressed at the earliest, according to an RPP leader present at the meeting.
