Kathmandu, March 20

The Supreme Court has decided that all courts in the country will suspend the hearing about all cases for the next two weeks, in its bid to avoid any crowd so as to protect the citizenry from the novel coronavirus infection.

However, the courts will not stop the hearing on habeas corpus cases.

A meeting of the full bench of the Supreme Court chaired by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana held on Friday decided to close the courts’ regular functioning till April 3.

From today, both houses of the Federal Parliament and most of the provincial legislative bodies have also halted their operation.

Earlier, the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers, Nepal Bar Association, had urged the apex court to halt hearings.
