Ahead of joint exercise, hi-level Chinese military officials in Nepal to talk cooperation

Kathmandu, January 22

A hi-level delegation of the People’s Liberation Army is in Kathmandu as armies from Nepal and China prepare to conduct their first-ever joint exercise next month.

According to sources, the Chinese delegation is being led by a major general, and has already talked to Chief of Staff of Nepali Army Rajendra Singh Chhetri.

Only a handful of officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Army HQ are in the know of the meetings, and the army’s PR division has remained mum about it.

According to source, the Chinese army is preparing to provide its Nepali counterpart with some hardware and equipment, especially ones it needs for development works

Nepal and China will kick-start their joint drill in February. The delegation has also discussed the number of participants from each side and the modality of the drill. The armies are yet to announce a date for the event.
