Pokhara, December 3

Following a forgettable day involving hullabaloo and police detention, the senior leader of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Paudel, has inaugurated a bridge in his home district of Tanahun on Thursday.

The Buldikhola bridge in Byas municipality was constructed two years ago but was awaiting a formal inauguration owing to the dispute between local leaders of the Nepal Communist Party and Nepali Congress.

The dispute escalated on Wednesday when the NCP wanted its leader Krishna Kumar Shrestha aka Kisan, who currently represents the constituency to the House of Representatives, to inaugurate the bridge. On the other hand, the opposition side was adamant that Paudel should take the lead as the government had allocated the budget for the bridge when he was the lawmaker before the 2017 elections.

Fearing a clash, the District Administration Office had issued a prohibitory order against any demonstration and later detained Paudel for three hours on the charge of breaching the order.

But, when Paudel, supported by dozens of leaders and cadres of his party, inaugurated the bridge today, the administration did not make any obstruction.
