AFC qualifier: Nepal’s skipper Maharjan ‘skips’ match against Philippines

Kathmandu, March 28

Nepal’s national football squad’s captain Biraj Maharjan will skip his side’s inuagural match of the AFC Cup qualifiers against the Phillipines on Tuesday.

Maharjan is not the ‘Playing XI’ and striker Bharat Khwas will skipper the side during the match slated to kick off at 5.45 pm, team officials say.

The Playing XI: Goalie Kiran Limbu, defenders Rabin Shrestha, Kamal Shrestha, Aditya Chaudhary and Ananta Tamang, midfielders Rohit Chand, Bikram Lama, Anjan Bista and Sujal Shrestha and strikers Bimal Ghartimagar and Bharat Khawas.

Nepal have only one one of the four matches the two sides have played so far. During the last friendly in October 2015, the Philippines beat Nepal 3-0.
