Acid attack victim dies at Lumbini hospital, police arrest attacker

Tulasa Sapkota (27), an acid attack victim from Gaindakot-5, Nawalparasi district, died in course of treatment at Lumbini zonal hospital in Butwal.

Sunil Koirala (28) of Naubise-1, Dhading district, had attacked Sapkota with acid at a hotel in Butwal on Sunday midnight, accusing her of cheating on him. Koirala and Sapkota were said to be in an affair.

When Sapkota cried for help, hotel staff came to her rescue and took the youth under control. They later handed him over to police.

According to Superintendent of Police Mukunda Marasini, the youth has conceded his crime. Koirala told police he had an affair with Sapkota. The youth said he attacked the woman after she chose someone else over him.

The woman had sustained burns in her face, head and body. She died while receiving treatment at Lumbini zonal hospital, DSP Bel Bahadur Pandey told Onlinekhabar.

Police also nabbed the woman’s aunt, Devi Kharel (40) of Chabahil, Kathmandu-7, from the hotel’s room number 104 as part of a probe into the case.
