ACC Emerging Teams Cup: Nepal go down to Pakistan by six wickets

Kathmandu, March 27

Pakistan’s U23 team defeated Nepal’s national squad by six wickets in the first match of their ACC Emerging Teams Cup being played in Bangladesh.

Pakistan chased down the 181 run target set by Nepal in 46.4 overs with opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq scoring a 134-run century. Captain Gyanendra Malla, who rarely bowls for his squad, picked up two wickets while leggie Sandeep Lamichhane also claimed as many scalps.

Having lost the toss, Nepal could manage only 180 runs in their alotted 50 overs. Opener Gyanendra Malla was out on three, Sagar Pun on four and Dipendra Singh Airee on 14. Sarad Veshawker (38) and Sunil Dhamala (46 0ff 126) put in some resistance. But the side could not make a competitive total.

Pakistan’s Ghulam Mudassar was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed five wickets.

Nepal take on Bangladesh on Tuesday in their second match of the tournament.
