CPN-UML lawmaker Sajida Khatun Siddiqui has written a letter to Prime Minister Balendra Shah through a parliamentary committee, urging him to address growing public concerns and prioritise concrete action over political statements.
Siddiqui read the letter during a meeting of the House of Representatives’ Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee.
“Prime Minister, today I want to express my concern about the future of the country and its people and make a heartfelt appeal to you. Running a country is not possible through social media statements and promises alone. It requires responsible leadership, a clear action plan, foresight and timely decisions,” she said.
She said the overall situation in the country had recently been marked by confusion, instability and uncertainty across various sectors.
“The growing concern and sense of insecurity among ordinary citizens should not be taken lightly,” she said.
Warning that the country needed to act in time to avoid further uncertainty and risks, Siddiqui said the government’s top priorities should be citizens’ safety, peace and good governance, employment, economic stability and the effective implementation of the Constitution.
“I would like to urge the prime minister to take the current situation seriously and prioritise work over political statements. Make public institutions accountable and take concrete steps to build public trust,” she said.
“Making the government aware of concerns is not opposition; it is a responsibility towards the country. This is not a time to spend our days trading accusations. It is a time to protect the country from possible crises.”
She said people shared a common aspiration for peace, public safety and the country’s progress in the right direction.
“Our shared wish is for peace in the country, for the people to remain safe and for the nation to move forward in the right direction. I sincerely urge the prime minister to move ahead with seriousness, keeping the interests of the country and its people above everything else,” she said.
