The Nepali Congress has conveyed to Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal that opposition parties are united in their demand for the federal parliament to be convened as soon as possible.
On Tuesday, Bhishmaraj Angdembe, leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, met Speaker Aryal at Singha Durbar to discuss the need to resume parliamentary proceedings.
Speaking after the meeting, Angdembe said Parliament should not remain inactive for an extended period, particularly as several serious issues required discussion.
“I told the Speaker that serious issues have emerged and that they should be discussed in Parliament rather than outside it. For this, the parliamentary session needs to be called as soon as possible,” he said.
He added that the discussion also focused on the importance of not keeping Parliament vacant for too long.
During the meeting, Angdembe briefed the Speaker on decisions taken by the Nepali Congress parliamentary party and discussions held among opposition leaders on Monday.
Opposition parties have called for the formation of a parliamentary special investigation committee to conduct an impartial inquiry into controversial government actions, including the police questioning and intimidation of journalists.
They have argued that an early parliamentary session is necessary to discuss these issues and pursue the proposed investigation.
The previous session of the Federal Parliament was prorogued on October 2, 2026 (16 Asoj 2083).
