Nepal Oil Corporation proposes 30% commercial gas quota, gives industry one week to decide

commercial gas quota

Kathmandu, November 2

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has proposed a new policy to regulate the pricing and use of domestic and commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Under the proposal, gas industries would be required to purchase and sell 30 per cent of their monthly quota at commercial rates.

The proposal was presented at a meeting between the corporation and officials of the Nepal LPG Industry Association on Friday.

According to the proposal, until cylinders of different capacities specifically designed for commercial use are introduced in the market, gas industries would have to collect 30 per cent of their quota directly from the corporation at commercial prices.

The industries would then be required to sell that gas exclusively for commercial purposes, either by ensuring it is used only for business purposes or by designating specific brands for commercial sales.

Gas industry representatives have decided to hold internal discussions and inform the corporation of their position within a week.

The meeting also discussed possible mergers among gas industries to reduce operating costs and streamline the market. Another proposal under discussion was to introduce a single logo for LPG cylinders sold and distributed across the country.

The meeting was attended by NOC board member Namaraj Ghimire and Executive Director Nagendra Shah. The industry association was represented by its president, Diwan Chand, and other office-bearers.
