Office-bearers and members of the newly elected Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress have taken their oath of office following the party’s 15th general convention.
Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa administered the oath to the newly elected office-bearers and central committee members at a ceremony organised by the Central Election Committee.
Thapa, who was elected president at the 15th general convention held in the final week of Ashoj, had taken his oath and assumed office on Fulpati, the seventh day of the Dashain festival.
He defeated his rival Shyam Krishna Khadgi to become party president, securing 6,584 votes against Khadgi’s 375. A total of 231 members were elected at the general convention.
Raju Katuwal, member-secretary of the Central Election Committee, said office-bearers and central committee members who could not attend Thursday’s oath-taking ceremony would be administered the oath internally at a later date.
He added that members of the party’s overseas public relations committees who could not attend the ceremony held in Sanepa had informed the election committee that they would participate via Zoom.
