Indian Actress Shabana Azmi to attend Kathmandu Film Festival

Kathmandu, October 27

Indian actress Shabana Azmi will attend the Kathmandu Film Festival, which Kathmandu Metropolitan City is organising from October 30 to November 1.

The information was shared at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday. Aayusha Shrestha, director of the Kathmandu Film Festival, said the event would feature screenings of Nepali and foreign films, discussions, masterclasses, heritage walks and an award ceremony.

She said the festival aims to preserve and promote Kathmandu’s culture, traditions and heritage. It also seeks to honour veteran artists and pass their creative contributions on to younger generations.

Azmi will participate in a discussion titled “Cinema, Festivals and a Meaningful Life” at the Nepal Tourism Board on October 31. Japanese director Takayuki Nakamura will also give a presentation on Japan’s Yamagata UNESCO Film City at the National Assembly Hall on the same day, Shrestha said.

A heritage walk will be held in Basantapur on the festival’s opening day. On November 1, the festival will feature a red-carpet event at the National Assembly Hall and a screening of the old Nepali film Ke Ghar Ke Dera.

Shrestha said the festival would use heritage sites for its opening and closing activities, while international films would be screened at Jai Nepal Hall.

Under the “Nepal Panorama Shorts” section, the festival will screen films, short films and documentaries created by emerging local filmmakers. Of the 75 films submitted through the Metropolitan City’s open call, 10 have been selected.

Each selected film will receive an incentive award of Rs 100,000. Films from Nepal and other countries will also be screened during the festival.
