Waling (Syangja), October 26
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said party leaders and cadres must reach out to people at their doorsteps to restore the trust the party has lost.
Speaking at a reception and interaction programme held in Putalibazar, Syangja, today, he said the Congress had lost public trust rather than votes.
“What the Congress has lost is not votes, but trust,” he said. “If trust is restored, votes will follow on their own.”
President Thapa stressed the need to meet voters who had distanced themselves from the party, listen to their grievances and explain how the Congress had changed. He said leaders and cadres, from the ward level to the central level, must work together to win back voters who had turned away due to dissatisfaction with the party in the past.
Noting that the party had undergone changes following its 15th general convention, Thapa said preparations were underway to launch an awareness campaign down to the grassroots level in Mangsir to inform people about those changes.
President Thapa said the general convention should be viewed as an internal competition within the party and that receiving or not receiving a responsibility should not be seen as a matter of victory or defeat. As everyone in the party has equal standing, he said, they must move forward together in unity.
