Kanchanpur, October 15
The checkpoint at Banbasa, on the Indian side of the border, has sent back to Nepal 25 children under 10 who were being taken to Dehradun, India, to study the Tibetan language.
The children, from Seyara in Simikot Rural Municipality-8, Humla, had been taken to India by Panchapabir Budha through the Gaddachauki border crossing in Kanchanpur. The Indian side stopped them on reaching the checkpoint at Banbasa and sent them back to Nepal.
The returned children have been handed over to Kanchanpur Police. Police are investigating the purpose of taking the children to India.
Although it has been said that the 25 children under 10 were being taken to Dehradun to study the Tibetan language, it has not come out which educational institution they were to be enrolled in.
It also remains unclear whether the guardians’ consent was obtained for taking the children to India.
Kanchanpur Police said further details about the incident are yet to emerge.
