Probe committee formed to investigate Mahesh Yadav’s death from snakebite

Janakpurdham, October 14

A committee has been formed to investigate the death of Mahesh Yadav, who was bitten by a snake.

The Ministry of Health and Population of Madhesh Province has formed a five-member investigation committee led by Dr Bipin Jha.

The committee comprises Santosh Thakur of the Ministry of Health and Population as member-secretary, Shyam Sundar Mahato, an officer at the Office of the Chief Minister, Babita Pandit, a nursing officer at the Provincial Hospital in Siraha, and Shiv Muharat, a statistics officer at the Health Ministry, as members.

The investigation began following the formation of the committee in accordance with a ministry decision dated October 5, said Thakur, the committee’s member-secretary.

On the night of September 29, 25-year-old Mahesh Yadav of Mujheliya, Ward 14 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, was bitten by a snake. He rode his scooter to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur for treatment.

Although he received treatment at the hospital, his condition deteriorated. He was referred elsewhere due to a shortage of intensive care unit (ICU) beds. He was then taken to the Snakebite Treatment Centre in Bardibas, where doctors declared him dead.

Following his death, the Madhesh provincial government has faced widespread criticism, with growing demands for an investigation into the incident.
