Australian PM extends Dashain greetings to Nepali community, expresses solidarity with flood victims

Australia

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has extended Dashain greetings to the Nepali community in Australia and expressed solidarity with those affected by floods in Nepal.

In a special Dashain message issued in October 2026, Albanese wished the Nepali community a joyful festival with family, friends and the wider community.

Noting that this year’s Dashain comes amid profound sadness and grief for Nepalis in Nepal and around the world, he said the community should not have to face the pain caused by the devastating floods alone.

He said Australia would continue to stand with the Nepali community in the months ahead as it works towards recovery and reconstruction.

Recalling that Dashain symbolises the triumph of truth over falsehood and good over evil, Albanese said the festival offers an opportunity to draw strength from the goodwill, compassion, generosity and unity of those around us.

He also praised the thousands of donors who contributed to emergency relief efforts and the families who attended memorial gatherings to express solidarity with flood victims. He said communities could overcome challenges through unity and collective support.

Albanese wished that Dashain would bring comfort, strength and blessings to all, and that the spirit of goodwill and unity would continue to bring people together.

He concluded his message with the greeting “Bijaya Dashami ko Shubhakamana” in Nepali.
