Janakpurdham, October 9
A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death, and another man was seriously injured in an attack near Janaki Temple in Ward 5 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City on Thursday evening.
Mohammad Irshad Khan, 22, a resident, allegedly stabbed Aamin Safi, 24, of Daha Chowk in Sonarpatti, Janakpur, to death and seriously injured Imtiaz Rain, 25, Dhanusha police spokesperson DSP Om Prakash Khanal said. The injured man is receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur.
The incident occurred at around 9:15 pm on Rahim Path. Khanal said Irshad stabbed both men in the chest and abdomen with a knife. Police have arrested him.
According to police, Irshad was already wanted in connection with an attempted murder case. On February 15, he allegedly attacked Mohammad Mustafa Rain, 26, of Rijaul in Ward 14 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, with a khukuri.
On the day of Bakra Eid, Irshad allegedly invited Mustafa to his home and took him to a shop, where he threatened to slit his throat with a khukuri. Other young men were also present. When Mustafa attempted to flee, Irshad chased him and attacked him from behind, injuring his left hand.
Irshad is also a TikTok content creator, with accounts under the name “Gunda” on TikTok and “MD Irshad Khan” on Facebook. He has reportedly posted dozens of videos targeting another community and promoting hatred, violence and abusive language. Calls for his arrest and legal action had been made previously.
Mustafa had filed a complaint against Irshad at the District Police Office in Dhanusha. Police subsequently pursued an attempted murder case against him. On July 16, police obtained an arrest warrant from the Dhanusha District Court.
The District Police Office had written to the Janaki Police Post on July 15, directing it to arrest Irshad. Police said they had been searching for him since then.
“We had already deployed police personnel to arrest Irshad. Officers had visited his home several times but failed to find him,” DSP Khanal said.
Irshad, who had evaded arrest in connection with the alleged khukuri attack on Mustafa, has now been arrested.
Residents allege that Irshad uses drugs. Police said his 42-year-old mother, Saimukh Khatun, was also arrested following Thursday’s incident and is being investigated.
