Kathmandu, October 7
The closed-door session of the Nepali Congress general convention has begun, with delegates set to endorse four reports before the party moves to the election of its new leadership.
The closed session will discuss and pass reports presented by the party president, vice president, general secretary and treasurer.
Once the reports are endorsed, the main task remaining will be the election of the new party leadership.
According to the election schedule, voting is scheduled to begin at 7 am on October 8.
The general convention will elect 24 office-bearers, including one president, one senior vice president, four vice presidents, three general secretaries, 15 joint general secretaries and one treasurer.
Of these, 19 office-bearers will be elected by the general convention.
The party’s statute provides for the president to nominate four joint general secretaries and one treasurer, meaning five of the 24 office-bearer positions will be filled through nomination.
The closed session is therefore the final major organisational process before delegates cast their ballots to select the party’s new leadership.
