Nepali Congress presidential candidate Kishor Singh Rathore has accused party president Gagan Thapa of failing to make sufficient efforts to unite the party.

Speaking to journalist Nimesh Banjade on Himalaya Television’s Yaksha Prashna, Rathore said Thapa did not appear to have made the level of effort required to bring different factions of the party together.

“The effort that should have been made to unite the party was not visible,” Rathore said. “The intensive effort that was needed was not seen. We can only see things from outside; we do not know what happened internally.”

Rathore also accused Thapa of failing to ensure fairness in the distribution of election tickets during his tenure as party president.

He further questioned Thapa’s ability to maintain the party’s dignity, alleging that some of his supporters have recently resorted to abusive language.

“He cannot make this party dignified. His supporters are now engaging in verbal abuse. Abusing others is not the culture of the Nepali Congress,” Rathore said, adding that he considered such behaviour to be associated with communist politics.

Rathore said he has a plan to improve the party’s internal culture and bring it back to what he described as the traditional values of the Nepali Congress.
