Madhu Acharya is set to contest for the post of vice-president at the ongoing 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.
Acharya had been tipped as a potential candidate for the post of general secretary. However, on the day of nomination registration, he said he would file his candidacy for vice-president.
Acharya said he decided to contest for the post to fulfil the responsibilities of the special general convention and advance the party’s transformation agenda.
Under the amended party statute, the Nepali Congress will have four vice-presidents, including one senior vice-president. One of the four vice-presidents must be a woman. Two of the vice-presidential positions will be contested under the open category.
Nomination registration for the general convention is taking place today. Nomination forms are currently being distributed, while registration will be open from noon to 4 pm.
