World Egg Day being observed for a week

Chitwan, October 5

The Nepal Layers’ Poultry Farmers Association is observing World Egg Day this year through a week-long series of events aimed at raising public awareness about the nutritional and health benefits of eggs. The theme for this year’s World Egg Day that falls on October 9, is “Protein that Powers and Protects.”

According to the Association’s Central President, Binod Pokharel, programs are being conducted in various schools across the country to educate students and parents about the nutritional value of eggs, their role in health, and their importance in a balanced diet. Special programs are being organized under the lead of the Association, with support from the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and collaboration between the government and private sectors.

On October 9, an “Egg Walk” is being held to start from the premises of the Chitwan Industries Association and conclude at Shahid Chowk in Narayangarh. The walk aims to raise public awareness regarding egg nutrition, its positive impact on health, and its importance in the daily diet.

A panel discussion involving stakeholders will also be organised on the same day. The program will feature discussions on egg production, nutrition, health, consumption, marketing, and the role of eggs in Nepali society. According to physician Dr. Bhojraj Adhikari, a single egg contains approximately 6 grams of high-quality protein, along with essential nutrients such as vitamins A, B, and B12. The protein found in eggs aids in building and repairing body tissues and muscles, while also playing a crucial role in the growth and development of children.
