The Tribhuvan International Airport office of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has warned that kites, drones and balloons being flown around the airport could pose serious risks to flight safety.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the airport office said such activities, which are prohibited by law, could create serious safety challenges during aircraft operations.
The warning comes as kite-flying activities increase with the start of the Dashain festival.
According to the airport office, kites, kite strings, balloons and drones entering aircraft take-off and landing areas can obstruct the safe operation of flights and create risks during take-off and landing.
The office said legal provisions prohibit such activities in areas around the airport and that the public has repeatedly been informed not to engage in them.
However, it expressed concern that such activities have continued despite the warnings.
“Flight safety is not only the responsibility of the airport and concerned authorities but a shared responsibility of all citizens,” the statement said.
The airport office called for public cooperation and responsible behaviour to ensure safe flight operations and the safety of passengers.
