Affordable, low-speed internet packages will no longer be available

Kathmandu, October 4

The Internet Service Providers’ Association of Nepal (ISPAN) has announced that it will no longer offer affordable, low-speed internet packages.

According to a statement issued on Sunday in the name of ISPAN President Sudhir Parajuli, internet service providers will stop offering affordable, low-speed packages from Monday, October 5.

The association said the packages are being withdrawn because several factors have made it difficult for providers to operate, and even to keep operations running. It cited price increases in previous years, fuel prices pushed up by Middle East tensions, soaring fibre prices, high inflation, and a sudden rise in electronics and chipset prices driven by the rapid growth of AI, among other reasons.

Apologising for the inconvenience to customers, the association has directed all providers to continue striving for the dream of a digital Nepal by delivering better-quality service. It has also directed all providers to display the rates approved by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority prominently on their websites.

The association has also urged all customers to make sure they get a VAT bill.
