The National Assembly has unanimously passed the National Forensic Laboratory Establishment and Operation Bill, 2081.
The bill, returned by the House of Representatives with several amendments, was presented in the National Assembly by Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mahabir Pun.
At Friday’s meeting, following detailed discussions on the bill, Minister Pun moved a proposal to pass it by accepting the amendments made by the House of Representatives.
With the passage of the bill, both houses of the federal parliament have reached agreement on moving forward with the legislation, which had been under consideration for a long time.
The passage of the bill has established the necessary legal framework for the establishment and operation of a forensic laboratory in Nepal.
The legislation is expected to strengthen access to scientific evidence in criminal investigations.
Informing the House about the significance of the bill, Minister Pun expressed confidence that its implementation would open up new avenues in scientific research.
