The government is preparing to suspend ongoing upgrading work on the BP Highway for a few days in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall across various parts of the country.
Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal said preparations were underway to halt track construction work on the highway temporarily, citing the risks posed by heavy rain, landslides and other weather-related hazards.
“The decision to suspend construction work for a few days has been made in light of potential rainfall, landslides and other challenges that could affect the road,” Lamsal said.
He said the temporary suspension was intended to minimise potential risks and ensure safer and smoother traffic movement along the highway.
Lamsal also urged travellers and the general public to exercise caution while travelling, particularly as heavy rain could increase the risk of landslides and other hazards.
He advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and not to take risks in areas that could be affected by adverse weather conditions.
