Nepal’s public debt nears Rs 3 trillion, while debt payments outpace capital spending
Nepal’s public debt has reached nearly Rs 3 trillion, even as the government’s total debt burden declined slightly in the first two months of the current fiscal year. According to the Public Debt Management Office, Nepal owed Rs 2.973 trillion by the end of Bhadra, the second month of the fiscal year 2026/27. The figure is slightly lower than the Rs 2.981 trillion recorded at the end of the previous fiscal year.
Egg prices rise again, large eggs cost Rs 600 per crate
Egg prices have increased again in the market. The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association said the price of eggs has increased by Rs 10 to Rs 15 per crate, effective from Tuesday. According to the price list issued by the association, the depot and dealer price for extra-large eggs has been set at Rs 4,300 per box, while the price of large eggs has been fixed at Rs 4,200 per box.
Madhesh government begins printing and distributing driving licences itself
The Madhesh provincial government has started printing and distributing driving licences on its own, aiming to reduce the long waiting time faced by service recipients. The Ministry of Labour and Transport of Madhesh printed 3,081 driving licences in its first batch and handed them over to transport management offices under the provincial government for distribution.

Government moves to allocate 2% hydropower IPOs to serving security personnel
The government has initiated the process to allow serving security personnel to participate in initial public offerings (IPOs) of hydropower projects.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said legal procedures were being advanced to ensure that serving security personnel receive a two per cent share in hydropower project IPOs in recognition of their contribution during disasters.
Free education up to Bachelor’s level for Gen-Z Movement martyrs’ families and injured
The government has decided to provide free education up to the bachelor’s level to the families of martyrs of the Gen-Z movement and those who were seriously or critically injured. According to the Guidelines for Providing Free Education to Families of Martyrs and the Injured of the Gen-Z Movement, 2083, prepared by the Ministry of Education and Sports, beneficiaries include the children and siblings of martyrs, as well as holders of IDs certifying serious or critical injuries.
