Kathmandu, September 18
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal Park Jae Kyung paid a courtesy call on Minister for Information and Communications Dr Bikram Timilsina on Thursday, with discussions focusing on the Bhotekoshi flood response and Nepal-Korea cooperation in technology.
The meeting, held at Minister Timilsina’s office at Singha Durbar, covered Nepal-Korea relations, rescue and rehabilitation of people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, and Korean assistance for relief and reconstruction.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in information technology, the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
Minister Timilsina thanked the Korean government for its support and solidarity with Nepal following the Bhotekoshi flood.
He expressed gratitude for Korea’s mobilisation of a disaster management team for search and rescue operations, as well as its commitment to supporting flood-affected communities and reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
Timilsina stressed the need to further strengthen Nepal-Korea relations based on mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.
Ambassador Park said South Korea would continue its support for rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit areas.
He also enquired about the condition of Korean nationals reported missing in the Bhotekoshi flood.
According to Park, a Korean security team rescued 10 Korean citizens from the flood-hit area, while nine Korean nationals remain out of contact.
Nepal to participate in Global ICT Leadership Forum
During the meeting, Ambassador Park also informed Minister Timilsina about Nepal’s participation in the 12th Global ICT Leadership Forum, scheduled to take place in South Korea from September 30.
The forum will bring together representatives from Nepal and other countries for high-level discussions on cooperation in information technology and artificial intelligence, as well as future strategies in the sector.
The forum is being organised by South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT in coordination with the National Information Society Agency.
