Two-way traffic is set to resume on the Prithvi Highway at Krishnabhir from 6 am Thursday.
Transport operators, who have incurred losses running into tens of millions of rupees after regular services along the major highway connecting the capital were disrupted for two and a half weeks, have expressed optimism following preparations to reopen the road after repairs.
The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs has informed its member associations, committees, companies and private limited companies that they can resume their regular services via the Prithvi Highway once the road is reopened.
According to the federation, transport operators have suffered losses worth millions of rupees over the past 18 days due to the highway disruption. The closure has also made it difficult to transport passengers to their destinations on time.
A section of the highway at Krishnabhir collapsed on August 30, causing about 100 metres of the road to cave in. It took 18 days to construct a new track and prepare the route for traffic.
Although transport services were operated through alternative highways during the disruption, large vehicles and long-distance routes were significantly affected.
