Remarks made by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Sunar against Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki have been removed from the parliamentary record.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal directed the Federal Parliament Secretariat to remove the relevant portion of Sunar’s remarks made during the House of Representatives meeting on September 11.
“I direct the Secretariat to remove from the parliamentary record the wording between the phrase ‘never’ and the phrase ‘the allegation is serious’ spoken by Hon. Khagendra Sunar at the meeting of September 11,” Speaker Aryal said.
Ekram Giri, joint secretary and spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, confirmed that some words used by Sunar in connection with IGP Karki had been removed from the record.
During the zero hour of the meeting, Sunar had drawn the government’s attention to allegations of corruption involving the police chief and questioned why he had not been dismissed or investigated.
He claimed Karki had been accused of corruption amounting to millions of rupees and alleged that complaints against the IGP had been piling up at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.
Sunar had said that Karki was accused of misappropriating funds meant for lower-ranking police personnel’s shoes and socks, among other allegations.
He also questioned why the government was protecting Karki and why no investigation had been initiated against him.
Sunar further contrasted the allegations against Karki with the dismissal of three ministers over what he described as relatively minor allegations, claiming that serious corruption complaints involving Karki, his wife and other senior officials had accumulated at the CIAA and the Public Accounts Committee.
The remarks were subsequently ordered removed from the official parliamentary record.
