An art exhibition featuring the works and stories of Binod Maharjan, a martyr of the Gen Z movement, and photojournalist Dipendra Dhungana has opened at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in Naxal, Kathmandu.
Titled ‘Pratidhwani’, the exhibition was inaugurated on September 9 and will run through September 13.
According to a press statement, the exhibition brings together photographs captured by Dhungana before he was injured while covering the Gen Z protest in New Baneshwor on September 8, 2025. Dhungana, a senior photojournalist with Naya Patrika Daily, was struck near the neck by a rubber bullet while covering the violent demonstration.
The exhibition presents his photographs alongside news materials documenting the aftermath, tracing his experience from witnessing the protest as a journalist to becoming part of the event he was covering.
It also commemorates Maharjan, a versatile artist from Patan who was killed by gunfire while participating in the Gen Z movement.
Maharjan was skilled in sculpture, woodcraft, metalwork, painting and traditional arts. He had worked since 2013 as a specialist in facial detailing and finishing metal statues and had also practised gold and silver electroplating.
The exhibition presents the two individuals’ experiences as a visual record of the movement, highlighting both artistic expression and the personal costs of witnessing and participating in a historic event.
