Kathmandu, September 11
Prime Minister Balen Shah has sought New Zealand’s support in international forums to help Nepal secure financial assistance to address loss and damage caused by climate-induced disasters.
Prime Minister Shah made the request during a telephone conversation with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Friday.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shah said Nepal is highly vulnerable to climate-induced disasters and urged the New Zealand government to provide constructive support for Nepal’s efforts at international forums.
During the conversation, Shah also expressed gratitude for the NZ$2 million in humanitarian assistance provided by New Zealand following the Bhotekoshi flood.
Shah briefed Luxon on the government’s ongoing search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating flood in Bhotekoshi, Rasuwa. He said the government has given high priority to locating all those who remain missing in the disaster.
Prime Minister Luxon expressed deep condolences, on behalf of the New Zealand government and people, over the loss of life and property caused by the devastating floods in Nepal.
He also expressed solidarity with Nepal during the difficult situation.
