The Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene has expressed serious concern over an incident in which a woman gave birth outside the premises of Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Hospital in Rajbiraj.
A five-member team from the Nepal Medical Council, including Registrar Dr Suprabhat Shrestha and Ethical Committee member Dr Ajay Shah, will travel to Rajbiraj today to investigate the incident. Dr Pawan Jung Rayamajhi, chief of the Curative Services Division at the ministry, will also join the team in the investigation.
The ministry has sought an explanation from the hospital regarding the incident. It said an on-site investigation would be conducted to establish the facts and that those found responsible would face action in accordance with the prevailing law.
The hospital is also preparing to form a separate committee to investigate the incident.
The ministry said no person seeking treatment at a health institution should be denied healthcare services. It said it was taking the incident seriously and had initiated a detailed review and necessary investigation.
