Nepal’s stock market rose 18.07 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index closing at 2,560 points.
The market has now closed higher for four consecutive trading days. On the previous trading day, the index had gained 4.66 points.
Market volatility remained relatively low on Monday, with the NEPSE index moving between a low of 2,542 points and a high of 2,565 points during the day.
Trading turnover increased slightly. Shares worth Rs 3.83 billion were traded on Monday, compared with Rs 3.46 billion on the previous trading day.
The prices of 195 companies increased, while 79 declined and four remained unchanged.
The non-life insurance sector recorded the biggest gain, rising 2.05 percent. The sector had been significantly affected by the floods of August 26.
With prices having declined in the past, investors showed renewed interest in the sector on Monday.
The banking sector rose 1.15 percent, development banks 0.13 percent, hotels and tourism 0.31 percent, hydropower 0.51 percent, investment 0.04 percent, life insurance 0.45 percent, manufacturing and processing 1.24 percent, microfinance 0.61 percent and the ‘others’ group 0.50 percent.
The trading sector declined 0.09 percent, while the finance sector fell 0.43 percent.
