Home Minister Sudan Gurung said the government is exploring whether drilling from above the tunnels could provide another way to reach people trapped inside hydropower projects following the Bhotekoshi flood.
Gurung made the remarks during a press briefing by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on the flood response in Rasuwa.
“Our new idea is to see whether we can dig from a point above and drill through to create another possibility of reaching them. The state is making efforts in that direction,” Gurung said.
He said the government had not given up hope of rescuing those trapped inside the tunnels.
“We have still not lost hope. We are also considering whether we can enter from above and whether they may have survived by drinking the water there. Our security agencies are still working at the site,” he said.
Search and rescue teams have been struggling to reach people trapped or missing inside hydropower tunnels after the Bhotekoshi flood.
