Another team of Chinese tunnel rescue experts has arrived in Nepal and begun work to rescue people believed to be trapped inside tunnels in flood-hit Rasuwa.

The Chinese Embassy in Nepal said the team arrived in Nepal on Sunday morning and has already started rescue efforts at tunnels in Rasuwa.

The latest team joins a Chinese expert team that arrived in Nepal earlier and has already begun rescue operations.

China’s Ministry of Emergency Management had earlier dispatched five tunnel experts to Nepal at the request of the Nepali government to support rescue efforts at the Upper Trishuli 3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project tunnel. An additional four experts were also dispatched to provide further support.

The Chinese experts are working alongside Nepali rescue teams as authorities continue efforts to reach people trapped inside tunnels affected by the floods.

The devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems caused extensive loss of life and property in Rasuwa. Several people are believed to have been trapped inside tunnels following the disaster.

The specialised Chinese teams have been brought in to support the technically challenging rescue operation.
