Flood sweeps away cargo vehicles in Timure, transport workers reported missing

Kathmandu, August 26

The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation has reported significant damage to cargo vehicles, transport businesses and workers following the flood that entered Rasuwa from the Tibetan side of China.

According to the federation, cargo vehicles parked at the Timure customs yard were swept away by the flood. Preliminary reports also indicate extensive damage to cargo vehicles parked in the Betrawati area.

The federation said some vehicle operators and workers affiliated with its member organisations remain out of contact. It has urged them to remain in contact with their respective organisations and reach out to security authorities if possible.

With the flood risk still ongoing, the federation has urged transport operators, workers and the general public to exercise extreme caution around rivers and nearby areas and follow instructions issued by security agencies.

It has also appealed to transport businesses and others to support rescue and disaster-risk reduction efforts wherever possible.
