Kathmandu, August 24
Former Deputy Speaker and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Indira Rana Magar has left for the United Kingdom to attend the funeral ceremony of renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja, popularly known as Nimsdai.
Rana Magar departed for London on Monday to attend the funeral of Purja, a former Gurkha soldier who died in an avalanche while attempting to climb Broad Peak in Pakistan.
Nirmal Purja’s funeral is scheduled to take place on August 26 at Milton Abbey in Blandford Forum, southwest England.
RSP lawmaker Mingma David Sherpa is also scheduled to travel to the UK on Monday to attend the funeral.
Rana Magar had previously urged the government in Parliament to declare Purja a national hero in recognition of his contribution to mountaineering and Nepal’s global reputation.
