The National Vigilance Centre has taken action against 11,004 government employees over disciplinary violations in the past four months, as the government intensifies efforts to improve discipline and address public complaints.
According to Narayan Prasad Bhatt, joint secretary and spokesperson for the centre under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, 1,298 complaints related to government offices and employees were registered between Chaitra and Shrawan. Of these, 1,114, or 85.82 per cent, have been resolved, 11.72 percentage points higher than during the same period last year.
The centre monitored 924 government offices during the four-month period. It took action against 10,268 employees for failing to follow the code of conduct or office hours, 645 for not wearing the prescribed uniform and 91 who were absent from their workstations.
The centre has directed the concerned agencies to take action against employees who violated disciplinary rules in accordance with existing laws.
During the same period last year, the centre had monitored 318 offices and identified 2,775 disciplinary violations.
The centre said it plans to expand the use of digital technology, artificial intelligence and data analysis in investigations, monitoring and surprise inspections.
It has also urged citizens to report misconduct, corruption and suspicious assets of government employees through its hotline at 014200345.
