NCP and UML reach agreement on ministry sharing in Karnali

Surkhet, August 19

The ruling coalition partners in Karnali, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and CPN-UML, have reached an agreement on sharing the provincial government’s portfolios. The six-point agreement between the two parties’ provincial parliamentary parties for the power-sharing arrangement was reached on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, apart from the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers office, the NCP will get three ministries, and UML will also get three ministries.

The NCP will hold the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment.

Meanwhile, UML has agreed to take the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, the Ministry of Social Development, and the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy Development.

The two parties have agreed that any new policies, programs, nominations, and appointments will only move forward once mutual agreement is reached between them. The agreement document also states that the provincial government will be run in a manner that ensures good governance, frugality, and transparency.

They have also agreed to continue implementing earlier decisions made for administrative structural reforms and to carry forward the remaining work in that area.
