Four girls returning home from school were swept away by a river on August 18. One of them was found safe, while another was found dead. They were students at Nirmal Secondary School in Bastipur, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-19, Makawanpur.
Two girls are still missing, according to school Principal Prabodh Bidari, who informed police about the incident. The students were swept away by the Basudev River in Basudev, Hetauda-19, while crossing the river along the road leading from the school.
The body of Roshni, the eight-year-old daughter of Deep Syangtang, a resident of Bastipur, Hetauda-19, was found lodged in a tree about 600 meters from the incident site, said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Makawanpur.
Similarly, Seema Blon, the 13-year-old daughter of resident Sitaram Blon, was found safe. However, 11-year-old Sumitra Blon and 12-year-old Binita Blon remain missing, and a search operation is underway, police said.
As soon as they received information about the incident, a police team from the Area Police Office, Newarpani, was deployed to the scene. A team from the Armed Police Force and another from the Nepal Army, both part of the Bagmati Province Disaster Management Group, have also been deployed to search for and rescue the missing students.
