Journalist Kishor Shrestha, who was released following a court order, has said pressure and intimidation will not stop him from reporting what he sees.

The Supreme Court had ordered his release on Monday.

Speaking after his release, Shrestha said he was not even allowed to meet his legal counsel while in custody. He expressed concern that such actions could be the beginning of similar treatment of other journalists.

Shrestha said he had faced pressure from the authorities in the past for reporting on issues he had witnessed, but he had never backed down.

“They did not even allow me to meet my lawyer. But I have not lost, and I will not lose. Until I die, I will continue to write what I see,” Shrestha said.

He said some people had been unhappy since he brought the report prepared by former Supreme Court justice Gauri Bahadur Karki into the public domain.

Shrestha also warned the government against taking the law into its own hands and using state agencies to exert pressure.

“I have faced such excesses from the state in the past as well,” he said, reiterating that he would continue his work despite the pressure.
