Kathmandu Model College (KMC) on Thursday organised KMC Haatbazar 2083, bringing together hundreds of students to showcase entrepreneurial ideas, business skills and creativity through a student-led marketplace.
Organised by the KMC Entrepreneurship Club and the KMC Media Reachout Club under the coordination of the KMC Student Quality Circle, the event was held under the theme “Learning Hands, Courage to Earn” and aimed to bridge classroom learning with practical business experience.
Former Miss Nepal 2018, entrepreneur and Member of the House of Representatives Anushka Shrestha inaugurated the event alongside KMC College Chief Surendra Subedi and Kathmandu Model Secondary School Principal Dr Nagendra Aryal.
Addressing the gathering, Shrestha described entrepreneurship as a necessity for today’s generation rather than merely a career option. She encouraged students to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems and said practical initiatives such as the Haatbazar help build leadership, teamwork, financial management and risk-taking skills.
The event featured 32 stalls operated by students from Kathmandu Model College and other institutions under the KMC Educational Network, including KMC Bagbazar, KMSS Bagbazar, KMSS Lalitpur and MIT College. Students displayed and sold food, clothing, handmade jewellery, handicrafts, home décor items and other products.
Around 2,000 students and visitors attended the day-long event, giving many participants their first opportunity to market products, interact directly with customers and gain hands-on business experience.
At the closing ceremony, organisers recognised outstanding participants with cash prizes and certificates. Studio Chrome won the Most Innovative Stall award with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, while Tech Hub from KMC Bagbazar received the People’s Choice Award and an equal cash prize. A Mehendi competition organised by the Art and Literature Club also honoured winning students for their artistic performances.
Organisers said the annual event seeks to foster innovation, leadership and an entrepreneurial mindset among students while encouraging them to turn academic learning into practical enterprise.
