Government committed to resolving construction sector problems: Minister Lamsal

Kathmandu, May 22

Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal has said the government is ready to address the problems faced by construction entrepreneurs through legal and policy reforms.

Speaking at a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Lamsal acknowledged that the construction sector has been severely affected by financial pressure, rising prices of construction materials, and delayed payments. He urged entrepreneurs to continue their work with confidence and responsibility.

During the meeting, construction entrepreneurs complained that they had not received payments for completed projects, while sharp increases in the prices of diesel and construction materials had further raised costs. They also raised concerns over complications in extending project deadlines.

Responding to the concerns, Minister Lamsal said the government is seriously studying issues related to price adjustment and deadline extensions based on the central bank’s indicators. He added that laws could be amended if necessary to resolve problems in certain projects.

Stating that the government and construction businesses are development partners, Minister Lamsal stressed that projects must be completed on time through coordination and cooperation. However, he warned that the government would take strict action against contractors who unnecessarily delay projects or perform substandard work.
