Kathmandu, March 31

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has directed the complete closure of exam preparatory classes and bridge course facilities targeting students at various levels of higher education that are not operated in accordance with existing laws.

According to a press statement issued on Monday by spokesperson Shiva Kumar Sapkota, the directive follows a decision by newly appointed Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel to shut down institutions operating under the name of “bridge courses.”

The Ministry has instructed that all such programmes be fully closed effective from Baisakh 1, 2083 BS. It has also urged concerned district administration offices to monitor whether such programmes are being conducted in compliance with prescribed legal standards.

Furthermore, the Ministry has directed relevant authorities to take action in accordance with prevailing laws. It stated that such courses have a negative impact on students’ psychological well-being and hinder equitable access to education, while also placing an additional academic burden on students.
